Chaiten Volcano is an active volcano located in Chile which entered its first active eruptive phase in about 9,500 years. These images were taken on May 2nd 2008 by Reuters’ photographer Carlos Gutierrez. These images captured Electrostatic discharge right above the eruption site. According to the Boston.com, scientists differ on what caused the electronic discharges.
